Company History
Heil is part of International Comfort Products (ICP), a Carrier Global subsidiary headquartered in Lewisburg, Tennessee. ICP also produces Tempstar, Comfortmaker, Day & Night, KeepRite, and Arcoaire — all sharing the same chassis and Carrier-derived engineering at value pricing.
Equipment Overview
Heil's lineup is the Ion (premium variable-speed), QuietComfort Deluxe (mid), and Performance (entry) series. Compressors are typically Copeland Scroll.
Advantages
- Carrier-family engineering at value pricing
- 10-year registered parts warranty
- Wide parts availability through Carrier Enterprise/ICP
- Solid Copeland Scroll compressors
Disadvantages
- Lighter cabinet than Carrier-branded equivalent
- Smaller premium-tier dealer footprint
- Resale value lower than Carrier badge
Expected Lifespan on the Treasure Coast
10–15 years on the Treasure Coast with annual maintenance. Coastal exposure (within 1/2 mile of saltwater) shortens that by 2–4 years without aggressive coil rinsing.
Maintenance Recommendations
- Annual tune-up with capacitor microfarad test under load
- Coil rinse every 3–6 months for coastal homes
- Filter change every 30–60 days during cooling season
- Drain line flush twice a year to prevent overflow trips
- Refrigerant charge verification by superheat and subcooling
- Electrical contactor and breaker amp-draw check
Common Heil Repairs
- Failed dual-run capacitor (most common single failure)
- Pitted or welded contactor
- Condenser fan motor seizure
- Blower motor or ECM module fault
- Refrigerant leak at brazed joint or Schrader core
- Clogged primary drain line and float switch trip
- TXV restriction after 8–12 years
- Frozen evaporator coil from low charge or restricted airflow
Florida Climate Considerations
Heil is common in budget-conscious replacements and rental properties across Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce. Solid value when properly installed.
Salt-Air Corrosion Considerations
Salt air is the single biggest killer of HVAC equipment on the Treasure Coast. Sodium chloride accelerates galvanic corrosion of copper coil tubing, aluminum fins, condenser fan grills, and even electrical lugs. Maritime Air Co. recommends coastal-grade coil coatings (Heresite, Bronz-Glow, ElectroFin) on any replacement within 1/2 mile of the ocean or Indian River Lagoon, plus quarterly fresh-water condenser rinses. This single practice often doubles outdoor unit life.
Energy Efficiency
SEER2 up to 19 on Ion.
Warranty Information
10-year registered parts warranty.
What Maritime Air Co. Thinks
Our professional opinion on Heil
Heil is a fair value option in the Carrier family. We don't actively recommend it over Carrier Comfort tier for premium replacements, but for landlord or budget situations it's a reliable choice.
