Company History

Carrier was founded by Willis Carrier — the engineer who invented modern air conditioning in 1902. For more than a century Carrier has set the technical baseline the rest of the industry chases, from the first centrifugal chiller to the first variable-speed Infinity residential systems. Today Carrier Global is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, just down the road from us, and manufactures most residential equipment in Indianapolis and Mexico. Maritime Air Co. is an official Carrier dealer.

Equipment Overview

Carrier's residential lineup spans three tiers (Infinity, Performance, Comfort) covering single-stage condensers, two-stage condensers, fully modulating variable-speed inverter systems, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, gas furnaces, fan coils, communicating thermostats, and the proprietary Infinity control system that ties premium equipment together over a 4-wire ABCD bus.

Carrier Product Lines

Advantages

  • Inventor heritage and ongoing R&D investment
  • Excellent parts availability through Carrier Enterprise distribution
  • Infinity variable-speed platform is industry-leading for comfort and dehumidification
  • 10-year parts warranty with registration
  • Strong dealer network and warranty claim process
  • Quiet operation across all tiers

Disadvantages

  • Premium pricing on Infinity equipment
  • Infinity communicating systems require a Carrier dealer for proper diagnostics
  • Proprietary boards mean parts cost more than universal substitutes
  • Some communication faults (yellow/green wire) require specific dealer tools

Expected Lifespan on the Treasure Coast

12–18 years on the Treasure Coast with annual maintenance and clean coils. Coastal exposure (within 1/2 mile of saltwater) shortens that to 8–12 years without aggressive condenser rinsing and protective coatings.

Maintenance Recommendations

  • Annual tune-up with capacitor microfarad test under load
  • Coil rinse every 3–6 months for coastal homes
  • Filter change every 30–60 days during cooling season
  • Drain line flush twice a year to prevent overflow trips
  • Refrigerant charge verification by superheat and subcooling
  • Electrical contactor and breaker amp-draw check
  • Infinity firmware/zone calibration during annual visit

Common Carrier Repairs

  • Failed dual-run capacitor (most common single failure)
  • Pitted or welded contactor
  • Condenser fan motor seizure
  • Blower motor or ECM module fault
  • Refrigerant leak at brazed joint or Schrader core
  • Clogged primary drain line and float switch trip
  • TXV restriction after 8–12 years
  • Frozen evaporator coil from low charge or restricted airflow
  • Infinity communication faults on the yellow/green wire (Infinity 26 24VNA)
  • Control board lockouts on Performance air handlers

Florida Climate Considerations

Carrier is the dominant brand in Tradition (Mattamy, Kolter, GL Homes), Bedford Park, and Valencia communities. Builder-installed Comfort and Performance models from 2015–2022 are now hitting their first capacitor and contactor replacements. Florida heat and humidity stress the indoor coil and drain pan more than any other component — annual drain treatment is non-negotiable.

Salt-Air Corrosion Considerations

Salt air is the single biggest killer of HVAC equipment on the Treasure Coast. Sodium chloride accelerates galvanic corrosion of copper coil tubing, aluminum fins, condenser fan grills, and even electrical lugs. Maritime Air Co. recommends coastal-grade coil coatings (Heresite, Bronz-Glow, ElectroFin) on any replacement within 1/2 mile of the ocean or Indian River Lagoon, plus quarterly fresh-water condenser rinses. This single practice often doubles outdoor unit life.

Energy Efficiency

Carrier offers SEER2 ratings from 14.3 (Comfort) up to 26 (Infinity Greenspeed). The Infinity 26 24VNA is one of only a handful of true inverter heat pumps that earns the highest federal efficiency tier and qualifies for the largest FPL rebates.

Warranty Information

10-year parts limited warranty on the compressor and all functional parts when the unit is registered within 90 days of installation by an authorized dealer. Labor is not included from the factory but is included for the first year through Maritime Air Co.

What Maritime Air Co. Thinks

Our professional opinion on Carrier

Carrier is one of our two favorite brands and we are proud to be an official Carrier dealer. The Infinity 26 is the best residential system money can buy for Treasure Coast humidity — its variable-speed inverter holds the house at 50% humidity even on shoulder-season days other systems can't. For mainstream homeowners, Performance 17 is the best value in the lineup. Comfort tier is fine as a builder install but we usually recommend stepping up to Performance on a replacement.

FAQ

Common Questions About Carrier

Is Carrier the same as Bryant?+

Yes — Carrier owns Bryant, Payne, Heil, Tempstar, Day & Night, and Comfortmaker. The equipment shares chassis, parts, and engineering but is sold through separate dealer channels at different price points.

How long do Carrier systems last in Florida?+

12–18 years with annual maintenance, 8–12 years within a half-mile of saltwater without coil coatings and quarterly rinsing.

Does Maritime Air Co. service Carrier warranty parts?+

Yes. As an official Carrier dealer we pull warranty parts directly from Carrier Enterprise and file the claim for you, so you don't pay for parts already covered.

Is Infinity worth the upcharge?+

For homeowners who live in their home year-round and care about humidity and electric bills — yes, easily. For seasonal residents in smaller homes, Performance is usually the smarter spend.

What's the most common Carrier repair in Tradition?+

Capacitor replacement on 2016–2020 Comfort and Performance condensers — the original-equipment capacitors are reaching end of life right on schedule.
