AC Blowing Warm or Hot Air? Here's the Fix.

When your vents blow room-temperature or warm air, the outdoor unit isn't running — or refrigerant isn't moving. We diagnose and repair same-day across Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie, Stuart, and Vero Beach.

Outdoor unit not running

If the indoor blower runs but the outdoor condenser is silent, the compressor isn't compressing — and warm room air just gets recirculated. Causes: tripped breaker, pulled disconnect, failed contactor, failed capacitor, or a thermostat call that isn't reaching the outdoor unit.

  • Check breakers in the main panel
  • Check the outdoor disconnect (gray pull-box at the condenser)
  • Listen for a hum at the condenser — humming + no start = capacitor

Lost all refrigerant

A fresh leak (line-set rupture, compressor seal failure, evaporator coil split) drops refrigerant charge below the low-pressure switch cut-out. The compressor cycles off for safety, and you get warm air. We pressure-test, locate the leak, repair, and recharge — never recharge without finding the leak.

Thermostat in HEAT or EM HEAT

Easy one to miss — kids, pets, cleaning crew, or a stuck button can flip the thermostat. Verify COOL mode and that the setpoint is at least 3°F below current room temperature.

Reversing valve stuck (heat pumps)

Heat pump systems use a reversing valve to switch between heating and cooling. A stuck valve sends hot refrigerant to the indoor coil even in COOL mode. We diagnose with refrigerant pressure readings and replace the valve when needed.

Frozen indoor coil thawing

If the system was running with a frozen evaporator coil, switching off may produce warm air until the coil thaws. Run FAN ONLY for 2 hours, then call us — frozen coils always indicate a deeper problem (low charge, dirty filter, blower issue).

FAQ

Common Questions

Why is my AC blowing warm air all of a sudden?+

Sudden warm-air symptoms almost always trace to one of four things: a tripped outdoor disconnect, a failed contactor (outdoor unit not running), lost refrigerant from a fresh leak, or the thermostat accidentally switched to HEAT or EM HEAT.

Is my AC blowing warm air an emergency?+

In Florida summer with indoor temps climbing above 82°F, yes — especially for infants, elderly, or pets at home. We dispatch same-day with stocked trucks. Captain's Comfort Club members never pay overtime for after-hours calls.

Can I check anything before calling?+

Verify thermostat is set to COOL and target temp is below current room temp. Check the outdoor disconnect (pull box at the condenser) is fully inserted. Check breakers in the panel. Replace the air filter if it's dirty. If warm air continues, call us.
